Broad Channel Athletic Club Midget Shamrocks Lose To Undefeated Wantagh
The first place Wantagh Warriors came to Broad Channel and remained undefeated, winning 27-13.
The Warriors would strike first in taking a 7-0 lead. The Shamrocks offense had their best game as they answered back. Patrick Minihane broke one for 53 yards and a touchdown as Broad Channel cut the deficit to 7-6. Minihane's run was helped by some fine blocking from Mike Henglein, John Weiss, Vincent Visconti, David Cancel, Matt McCabe and tight ends Mike Creilly and Steven Kenny.
Wantagh scored again making it 13-6. The Warriors offense would put up another touchdown on the scoreboard before the half as they took a 20-6 lead.
In the third quarter, the BCAC defense of Brendan Trudden, Danny Clark, Charlie Bostwick, Bryan Bostwick, Timmy McCabe, Andrew Visconti and Vinny Cavanagh would hold off the Wantagh offense. BCAC's offense went to work and was successful as Minihane ran for a 38-yard touchdown, which was his second score of the day.
QB Timmy McCabe would keep the ball on a sweep for the extra point to make it 20-13. The Shamrock defense forced a fumble on the Wantagh 20 yard line with only a few minutes left. The Shamrocks had their chance to tie the first place Warriors, but an offensive fumble would stop their drive. The Warriors scored on a 44-yard touchdown to make the score 27-13.
It was by far the Shamrocks' best game. The coaches are proud of these young men as they fought the whole game; thank all the fans for coming out; and invite everyone to come out on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. to see the Shamrocks at BCAC Field.
