SJEH Offers Childbirth Classes
If you are expecting, prepared childbirth classes may help you get ready. Learning what to expect with cesarean delivery, pain medications, how your partner can help you during labor, and the warning signs of preterm labor are just some of the topics covered at these classes for pregnant women and their coaches. Taught by certified prepared childbirth educators, the classes will be held in three sessions. They can help prepare you for various aspects of childbirth: for labor and delivery, for the changes that pregnancy brings, and for what to expect once your baby is born.
These sessions can provide you with a great forum to ask lots of questions and can help you make informed decisions about key issues surrounding your baby's birth. Taking these steps will ease nervous minds and also decrease the possibility of complications and confusion.
Come and bring a friend! Childbirth classes may present a great opportunity to meet other expectant parents who can share their experiences and transition into parenthood with you.
Classes will be held on Thursdays, November 5, 12 and 19, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the boardroom at St. John's Episcopal Hospital, 327 Beach 19 Street.
Other topics the classes will cover include breathing, relaxation exercises, exercises for pregnant women, nutrition, breast and bottle-feeding, stages of labor and post-partum depression. For registration and fee information please call 718-869-7276.
