'Groove Is In The Heart' To Host Fundraiser
Producers of Groove is in the Heart, a Rockaway play on its way to New Orleans, will host a fundraiser/ reading on Sunday, October 18 at 2 p.m. in the chapel conference center of the St. John's Home for Boys, 144 Beach 111 Street.
The Rockaways have no shortage of creative talent and one of the arts events happening this weekend is a theatrical reading of "Groove is in the Heart," written by a Rockaway playwright and read by Rockaway actors.
Groove is in the Heart, a one-act play about love, romance, dating, marriage, and murder by Rockaway local, Pamela Popeson, was selected for performance by the New Orleans Fringe Festival. The festival takes place this November and the reading event will help underwrite the New Orleans' production costs.
Popeson's full-length plays have has been performed Broadway and in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival; she has had several one-act plays in festivals around the country. For the past several years Popeson has been involved with the theatrical community in New Orleans taking shorter one-act works to an annual performing arts festival there. "Groove is in the Heart" will be the sixth play she's taken to New Orleans. Refreshments will be served and there will be door prizes. A donation is suggested. All proceeds will go toward the cost of producing the play in New Orleans.
