Locals Perform Well For Bishop Kearney Cross Country Team

Bishop Kearney High School congra - tulates cross country captain Meg h an Hayes on her second place fin ish at the 2009 Mayor's Cup Cross Count ry Championship held in Van Cort landt Park in the Bronx, this past week end.

"Hollywood" Hayes competed a - gainst a very competitive field of 98 runners from the CHSAA, PSAL and pri vate school divisions. She ran a smart tactical race by attacking the steep back hills to separate herself from her competitors. Hayes came out of the hills in second place with a lead of more than 100 meters over the next closest competitor. She finished with a personal best of 16 minutes 22 seconds, a super accomplishment.

The Bishop Kearney freshmen squad of Krysta Cosenza, Natalie Juliano, Danielle Punzina, Kaitlyn Cirrillo, Bridget Campbell and Lauren O'Keefe captured third place team honors at the mayor's cup freshmen division.

The freshmen were led by Cosenza finishing in sixth place followed closely by Juliano in 14th place and Punzina in 22nd place. All three received individual medals for their efforts. The Bishop Kearney team was awarded a third place plaque, medals for the entire team, and special mayor's cup t-shirts were given to the team. The entire Kearney team finished off a very impressive weekend.
