White Shamrocks Shut Out Black Knights In The Rain

The BCAC Pee Wee White Sham - rocks came to play early Sunday morning, although Mother Nature tried her best to postpone the game at the Broad Channel Memorial Field. It rained hard for all four quarters and the field was soaked, but the White Shamrocks figured out a way to score twice en route to a 14-0 shutout of their Amityville counterparts.

Starting the game on offense, BCAC RB Ian Byrne took the handoff from QB Jack Collins on the second play of the game and ran 59 yards for the rushing touchdown. Byrne got an open lane to run through with the help the veteran offensive line of James Agoglia, Mikey Butkiewicz, Jack Tansey, Pete Meehan, Matty Schmitt and Jack Ward.

A key block from the fullback Mikey McManus opened the sidelines for Byrne to give the Shamrocks a 6-0 lead. The successful extra point conversion increased the lead to 7-0.

The BCAC defense did just as well in stopping Amityville's offense. The defense was led by Dominick Maiorano, Christian Agoglia, Brendan Petronis, Matty McDonagh, Peter Maiorano, and Damien Stathis. BCAC's defenders would force a fumble on the Black Knights' first play of the game as the Shamrocks got the ball inside the Knights' 40-yard line.

On the very next play of the game, RB Dillon Ostrander, led by blocks from James Tuohey and Nick Meehan, took the handoff and ran 37 yards down the sidelines for a Shamrocks touchdown. Another successful extra point followed to bring the score to 14- 0 to the delight of the drenched fans in the bleachers, who stuck it out in the terrible weather.

"No amount of rain would keep me away from cheering our team on," a wet but happy Joanne Byrne said after the game was over.

The Shamrocks had two additional opportunities to score, but costly fumbles kept them out of the end-zone. There were eight fumbles in the game, as both teams found it hard to hold on to the pigskin.

The Shamrocks would like to thank all who came out to support the team. The next game is on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at Bethpage. Go to www.nsfl.com for more details.
