Bomb Scare Forces Shopping Plaza Evacuation

Police sealed off the Dayton Plaza Shopping Center and all of its stores at 6 p.m. on Tuesday evening when an anonymous caller reported that there was a bomb in a bag inside the NSA Supermarket at 87-15 Rockaway Beach Boulevard. Specialized police units such as the emergency service unit, K-9 and the bomb squad responded and searched the supermarket. They found no explosive device and the shopping plaza was reopened. Police sources say this is the second such incident within the week, the first coming around the same time on Friday, September 25. Photo by Susan Locke.
