On Sunday, police continued the search for the shooter who hit a patrol car on Beach Channel Drive near Beach 57 Street. On Sunday, police continued the search for the shooter who hit a patrol car on Beach Channel Drive near Beach 57 Street. Police sources say that two female officers were on patrol in the 101 Precinct and responding to a call in Edgemere when several shots were fired in their direction from within the Ocean Bay Houses on Beach 57 Street at about 8:30 p.m. on September 26.

"They heard the shots and then the rear window exploded," one police source said.

The shots shattered the rear window of the radio motor patrol car and damaged the driver's side mirror. One of the slugs wound up embedded in the roof of the car.

Neither of the cops was injured.

It was not immediately clear exactly where the shots came from, but police officials at the scene called a Level II Mobilization, which brought cops from all over Queens as well as specialized units that included K-9, ESU and aviation.

Teams of officers from the Queens South Task Force spread out over the sprawling Ocean Bay public housing complex and dozens of people were stopped and questioned.

The search for the shooter continued into Sunday.

Police are unsure if the cops were the target of the shooting or if they drove into crossfire.

Detectives from the 101 Squad are investigating. Anybody with information is urged to call 718-868-3429.
