Relief Available for Residents in Debt to the City

Councilman James Sanders Jr. is urging homeowners and business owners to take advantage of the NYC Penalty Relief Program. The three-month program was authorized by Mayor Bloomberg and the City Council to allow businesses and homeowners to resolve Environmental Control Board violations that are in default. The program allows applicants to pay violations past due without having to pay the interest or late fees they may have acquired due to late payment. What are Environmental Control Board Violations?
• Dirty sidewalk
• Failure to post permits
• Failure to properly separate recycla
ble materials
• Failure to restore street cut
• Illegal posting of handbill/notice
• Sidewalk construction
• Street closing without permit
• Vending merchandise without a

• Vending food without a license/permit
• Vending in a restricted Area such as a
bus stop or within 10 feet of a driveway,
subway, crosswalk, etc.

"If you're an individual who has an Environmental Control Board Violations, I urge you to take advantage of this program" said Councilman Sanders.

The program is available from September 21, until December 21, 2009. If you would like to apply for the program contact 311 or apply online at www. nyc.gov/finance. You can also mail the application to NYC Department of Finance, 66 John Street, Room 104, New York, NY 10038 (Attention: NYC Penalty Relief Program).
