Historical Views of the Rockaways

From The Rockaway Museum by Emil Lucev, Curator Dedicated To The Memory Of Leon S. Locke

Who Is She? Who Was She?

Where Is She Now?

This old and browned photo, almost to the point of being a sepiatoned picture is marked, at the bottom, Rockaway - 1919.

There is a slight possibility that the bathing capped beauty of that year posing in the photograph might still be alive and well.

The image was shot on the beach at Beach 116 Street, and that is Curley's Atlas Hotel in the background.

The old boardwalk, shown in front of the hedges, was only 18 inches high and 20 feet in width.

It was later replaced by a larger walkway.

How about yawl out there in Waveland?

Does anyone recognize the woman?

Where is she now?
