James Parker, a longtime Rockaway resident, died September 16.
Parker was born June 20, 1917, in Tallahassee, Florida. He had many odd jobs including painting, baking cakes for his grandchildren, and working for Catina Beach Club.
Parker is preceded in death by his son Freddie Parker; great-grandson Dyquan Pastor; his brothers, Milton and Horace Parker; and his sister Rebecca Parker.
He is survived by his son James Parker Jr.; two daughters, Carol and Rosa Parker of Queens, New York; brother, David Parker of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; two granddaughters, Tawana Mayers and Laeda Parker; three grandsons, Fred Parker, David Parker, and Sherman Baker; two great-granddaughters, Shashana Mayers and Antanasia Harding; two step-daughters, Donna and Theresa Mayes of Queens, New York; David Gregory of Far Rockaway; and a host of family and friends.
Funeral arrangements and memorial service were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney Friendship Chapel, Inwood, New York. Interment took place at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, New York.
