Mattee Pruitt, 81, a longtime Rockaway resident, died September 13.
Pruitt was born April 1, 1928, in Due West, South Carolina. She was involved in the New Beginning Deliverance Church of Jesus Christ. She taught Sunday school and Tuesday night Bible Class under the guidance of pastors, the late Bishop Henry G. Maddox, and Lucille Maddox. She also faithfully delivered "Mom's Chat: Words of Wisdom to the Body of Christ."
She is preceded in death by her husband, Marcellus Pruitt; her daughter, Leva; and her son-in-law, Keith.
She is survived by 12 children, Vivian, Michele, Marcel, Brenda, Karen, Ava, Marcus, Audrey, Rosalyn, Irma, Eartha, and Craig; her sons-inlaw, William, Calvin, Vernon, and Henry; one daughter-in-law, Janell; 41 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; her spiritual children of New Beginning Deliverance Church of Jesus Christ; her Pastor and dear friend, Pastor Lucille Maddox; her best friend, Dorothy Allen; and a host of neighbors in the Far Rockaway Community.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney Friendship Chapel, Inwood, New York. A memorial service was held at New Beginning Deliverance Church of Jesus Christ, Far Rockaway. Interment took place at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, New York.
