Senior Safety With Donated Cells

Assemblywoman Audrey I. Pheffer knows that the JASA Elder Abuse Program is always in need of donated cell phones to help keep victims of abuse safe. That's why when Erick Aviles, manager of the Fairfield Inn by Marriott New York Hotel in Long Island City, asked how he could help his local community, Pheffer immediately contacted JASA.

Aviles, a new resident of Rockaway, who recently moved to Arverne By The Sea, coordinated a "donate your cell phone" campaign amongst his colleagues at Fairfield Inn by Marriott New York Hotel in Long Island City. The employees stepped up to the plate and dozens of cell phones were donated.

Now senior citizens who are victims of abuse will have free phones, so that in case of emergency, they may contact the police and possibly save their lives.

"One of Rockaways greatest resources is its residents. Erick Aviles, a new neighbor, completely embodies that spirit. Erick and the Fairfield Inn by Marriott New York Hotel organization actively look for ways to help make the community a better place and take action.

The JASA Elder Abuse Program, the community and the Marriott Organization are blessed to have a dedicated worker and neighbor like Erick Aviles," said Pheffer.
