More Than 300 Join RWA To Clean FR Beaches

Group of students and volunteers from PS 43 Group of students and volunteers from PS 43 Last Saturday the number of participants showing up to join the Beach 29 Street beach cleanup was tremendous. Over 300 students, faculty and families from PS 43 and ten other schools around the peninsula including Kappa VI, Scholars' Academy, PS 215, Beach Channel High School, as well as employees from Virgin American Airlines came to join in this year's efforts.

The annual cleanup that Rockaway Waterfront Alliance and PS 43 partner on each year has drawn support from throughout the community. The cleanup, which takes place directly outside the school off Beach 29 Street, is part of the American Littoral Society International Cleanup. RWA and PS 43 have focused on this area for the past five years and as a result of the show of people, over 100 bags of trash and assorted debris were collected, amounting to more than 1,000 pounds of garbage in one day. By the end of the cleanup there was nothing more to clean, which means that as a result of these consistent efforts people are finally making a change in their habits and starting to be a part of the stewardship effort.

Virgin American Airlines employees pitch in the effort. Virgin American Airlines employees pitch in the effort. RWA sends special thanks to everyone who came out to help.
