Senior Shamrocks Suffer Tough Loss To Hicksville

The Broad Channel Senior Shamrocks opened their season on Saturday night with a tough loss against Hicksville at home.

Hicksville put up eight points in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Broad Channel drove the ball downfield with quarterback Eddie Hoff leading the way. The offensive team of Stephen Ambrosino, Andrew Conklin, Elijah Dorta, Eamonn Gavigan, William Kazmierczuk, Matt Marketti and John Meringolo all contributed as running back Thomas Kelly pushed through for a touchdown. A missed extra point resulted in Hicksville taking an 8-7 lead at half time.

The BCAC defense played a huge roll in the majority of the game. Sacks by Mike Abrams and Thomas Powers along with an interception by Carmine Criscione would be key plays throughout the contest. The defense of Thomas Creighton, Michael DeTommaso, Timothy Panetta, Paul Rayder and Paul Yodice would contribute to keep Hicksville out of the end zone.

Fourth quarter action saw Broad Channel drive the ball on the ground for a touchdown by running back Chris Manfre. An extra point catch by Charlie Gavigan made for a 13-8 lead by Broad Channel. But a missed snap late in the game would prove to be a tough break as Broad Channel turned the ball over on the thirty yard line. Hicksville would capitalize by scoring the final touchdown and converting the extra point for a 15-13 final score.

The BCAC seniors' next game is away at Bayville on Sunday, September 20 at 11:30 a.m.
