Shared Bike Lanes Impacted By 100-Mile Bike Tour

A "Century" bike tour, a 100-mile ride, brought hundreds of riders to Rockaway on Sunday, tying up traffic on Rockaway Beach Boulevard as the bicyclists rode from the Marine Parkway Bridge to the Cross Bay Bridge. At one point, the bikes held up cars and buses on the busy eastwest road as the vehicles shared an official bicycle lane with the bikers. The sharing almost led to blows. In another incident, a truck tried to move around the bikers at about Beach 114 Street and almost forced a gaggle of bikers off the road and onto the sidewalk.
