Youth Struck By Basketball Rim
A young man who got in the middle of an altercation in Far Rockaway on September 2 was struck by a basketball rim that had been pulled from a playground stanchion, police say.
Sources tell The Wave that a large group was fighting at about 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, when one of the combatants pulled the rim from the basketball court and began using it as a weapon, striking the young boy in the face and head.
Cops responding to a call of a large disorderly group fighting in the playground at 1426 Chandler Street found the young boy with lacerations to his face and head.
He was transported to St. John's Episcopal Hospital, where he was reportedly treated and released.
Police sources say that one juvenile male was arrested for the assault, but declined to provide his name because of his age.
