Peninsula Hospital Center's Acting Director, Pediatric Department, Olajide Olawepo, M.D. or "Dr. O" as he is called by his patients, is busy giving back-toschool exams and teaching the children how to minimize their risk for contracting communicable diseases including the H1N1 virus.

"Both parents and children need to know the basics of good hygiene," says Dr. Olawepo. "Good hand washing is key and if soap and water aren't available, a good hand sanitizer can also be used." Dr. Olawepo explained that he also talks to children about how to wash their hands and if they have to cough or sneeze, how to do it to minimize the spread of germs. "Parents cannot be with their children every minute of the day, so we feel it is very important to educate the children so that good hygiene habits just become second nature to them," states Olawepo. "We're here for the children when they need us, of course. But we believe that it is also our job to teach them how to keep themselves healthy."
