In Defense Of Peter Sammon
We are writing in response to a letter in the August 14 issue of The Wave regarding the Neponsit Property Owners' Association.
Rockaway is a wonderful place to live. Our homeowners' associations help to ensure the quality of life we all enjoy here. We should be thankful to volunteers who lead these groups and work tirelessly to keep our neighborhoods safe and desirable.
We have been members of the Neponsit Property Owners' Association for over thirty years. We have attended numerous meetings and have always been impressed with the level of commitment of the officers. Peter Sammon is a fine example of a dedicated community leader. He is well informed on many issues of importance to the members. He is responsive to inquiries and follows up on residents' problems and concerns. He is always soft spoken and courteous.
N.P.O.A. is about a lot more than just malls! The association always strives to keep our neighborhood beautiful and safe. That is why we are always attracting new residents. The association and its leaders respond to homeowners' questions and concerns regarding renovations and new " buildings. Their role is to protect the neighborhood and see that codes and zoning regulations are being followed.
At our meetings we are kept informed about issues of importance to the immediate and larger community. These include the proposed offshore gas storage facility, the preservation of our beaches and the future of the Neponsit Home. Speakers from the Office of Emergency Management, the Police Department, Peninsula Hospital and local politicians discuss important issues and answer all our questions and concerns.
In all organizations members will not always be in agreement about all issues. The best course of action to effect change is to become involved and work from within the organization. Peter Sammon has repeatedly asked members to take a more active role in the leadership of the organization.
The N.P.O.A. is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year. For almost a century it has worked to maintain and improve the quality of life in this part of Rockaway. It is deserving of the support of all the residents of Neponsit and the surrounding communities.
