Brooklynites Favor Kennedy's
News Events/Travel Editor/Host • WNYX - TV Morning News • 12:00 noon on UHF Chs. 35 & 26 Monday - Friday

Not only is Kennedy's on the Bay in Breezy Point one of the top restaurants in Rockaway, but I met Kristen and Michael Strehle from Brooklyn who chose Kennedy's to celebrate the christening of their new baby, Robert, born July 11, 2009. All 43 guests (19 kids and 24 adults, including little brother Timothy, 2) were having a very merry time. It was so nice to meet you and a happy future to all. At the bar was Tom Cody, former best bartender at Kennedy's, and John Dooley, both retired and looking well after the many years I haven't seen them. They have more time now to enjoy their life and their family. Continue so and with much happiness. Hope we meet again soon.

I must commend the Security and the Fire Deptartment of Breezy Point. No job is too small for them. They were right there to rescue a woman who was locked out of her house. I don't recommend you call them in a situation like that if you can possibly get help otherwise, but they are there when you need them. Donald Bruder's daughter, Jeannie Bruder, is studying for her master's degree in speech therapy. (No one knows more than I how important a speech therapist is. So vital when one has a stroke which I did and suffered that loss.) Wish you an abundance of success in your career. She lives with Dad, Donald Bruder, who is coming along in spite of the loss of wife, Barbara, three years ago. However, he is surrounded by family, which helps. His son Kurt lives across the way on Beach 220. Son Paul is married with two children and resides in Rockaway. Best to all of you.

Making the rounds in NYC: A new luxury hotel/residence, The Mara Manhattan at 301 East 94 Street had its opening reception in the penthouse this week that was superb. You cannot miss the view as you shower from this extremely modern bathroom alongside the enclosed sauna. The penthouse goes for $1,700 in summer and $3500 for Holiday season per night. A great spot for a party.

If you are interested in Croatian Arts and Crafts they were on view across town at a gallery at 549 West 52 Street. The artwork was very interesting, but I can't say that much for the gallery. At 333 Lexington Avenue the building welcomed buyers and press for cocktails and snacks to view their different types of furniture. I did find very functional entertaining tables at the Table Server which had built-in cup holders to hold your liquor bottles and snack cups or whatever. It is very innovative and useful. The table server bar can be taken with you. In a snap you can pick up the top piece and bottom tray and fold up the frame and it has an optional carrying case for camping and tailgate parties.

While walking back from the beach I ran into Lani and Richard and son Valentino (6). Lani is one of Helen and Peter Danzilo's daughter. Peter died two years ago and Helene followed shortly after, in March of 2009. Lani and Richard are only staying two nights in her mother's beautiful home on the corner of 219 Street on the bay. She looks well and I commented to her, "Valentino has Helen's features." It is so good to see them. The ocean was forbidden for swimmers and the next day it came up beyond the playground. The "Pointers" can't say they are sorry to see "Bill" leave.

What you missed in the city: an Indonesian Night with charm; music, talented performers and dancing, and a buffet table of delicious food … all in celebration of the 64th Anniversary of Honorable Tire Edi Mulgani of Independence. Southwest Airlines greeted the travel agents at the Bryant Park Grill on a rainy night, but made up for it with delicious cocktails, hors d'oevres and promotional rates. The Gift Fair was an eye opener as usual with novel innovative wraps and ties and useful items, lighting fixtures with various ornaments and attachments and many, many other things.

Preferred Hotels, taken over by the Starwood Hotels, held a beautiful reception at the Parker Meridian. Costa Rica welcomed agents and press to a fantastic time at the Grand Hyatt. You can rent at Villas Del Rios for a little as $101 per month.Travel: Cancun & Riviera air inclusive, kids 12 and under stay and eat FREE, 3 nts. $519, 7nts. $749 . Punta Cana 7nts. $699.99.
