Two Shot And Killed Blocks Apart
Two as yet unidentified men were arrested on Monday for the murder of a local resident who was shot once in the head and killed in front of 411 Beach 54 Street, in the sprawling Ocean Bay Houses complex, officials say.
Police sources identified the dead man as Ronald Spivey, 19, who was shot at about 3:20 a.m. on Friday, August 21, as he was returning home to his apartment in the complex.
Sources declined to identify the two men who were arrested for the murder until they have been officially arraigned in Queens Criminal Court, which should take place this week.
As the summer draws to a close, gun-related violence in Far Rockaway continues to escalate. Two more incidents, within the confines of the 101 Precinct, have been reported in the past two weeks.
According to police reports, on the afternoon of August 17, police were called to 11-22 McBride Street in Far Rockaway after a gun went off while being handled by two young males - both 15 years old. The incident left one teen injured, while the other fled the scene.
Police were told that the teens were playing with the handgun when it accidentally went off and wounded one of the young men in the left shoulder. Police confirmed that after the gun discharged, the other youth fled to McBride Street and Beach Channel Drive, taking the firearm with him. The wounded male was taken to Jamaica Hospital where he was treated for his wound. Police went into a Level I mobilization, but no arrests were made at the time of the incident.
"But we know who we're looking for," a police source told The Wave.
At approximately 9:40 a.m. on August 12, two male teens - 16 and 17 years old - accosted a man in front of 2385 Bayswater Avenue, near Mott Avenue.
According to police, two black males, one with a black semi-automatic handgun, approached the male victim from behind and told him to empty his pockets. Police are still investigating.
