Participants in the Rockaway Development and Revitalization Corporation's Summer Youth Employment Program and the 1199SEIU Youth Mentoring Program at Peninsula Hospital Center received a potentially lifesaving bonus at the end of their work programs.

The Hospital Center, in collaboration with the Weed and Seed Program and through the volunteer efforts of Wayne Dodakian, D.O., third-year Peninsula Hospital Center Family Practice Resident and Certified Red Cross instructor, trained thirteen young people for three days to earn their Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification.

"These are bright students who worked hard and were eager to qualify for their certificates. I was impressed by their interest, questions and their willingness to devote so many hours to the course," said Dodakian.

The young men and women were given scrubs and materials along with three days of rigorous instruction. All students passed the required certification exam.
