Strong Gas Smell Closes RBB For Two Hours


A strong smell of gas permeated the area between Beach 88 Street and Beach 90 Street on Rockaway Beach Boulevard early on Wednesday morning, causing fire units to close off the busy main street for two hours on Wednesday morning. Firefighters went door to door, checking that the stores and offices along those two blocks were safe. Workers for National Grid finally isolated the gas main leak on the corner of Beach 89 Street, reopening Rockaway Beach Boulevard to traffic and repairing the leak.
