Seniors Eligible For $200 Long Island Power Authority Credit

Assemblywoman Audrey I. Pheffer (D-Queens) wants area residents to be aware of LIPA's Income-Eligible Senior Energy Assistance Program (IESEAP) is a special program established by LIPA to help income-eligible seniors, 62 years and older, pay their electric energy bills.

"In these tough economic times, energy costs can become a burden, especially for seniors. This onetime credit of $200 to their LIPA account will provide a much needed relief to many area seniors," said Pheffer.

These bill credits will be made on a first-come/first-served basis based on availability of program funds. To qualify for a $200 credit you must be 62 years of age or older, be a LIPA electric account holder and meet the monthly and annual income limit for your household size.

If you have a household of one, the monthly income limit is $1,963 and the annual income limit is $23,556; if you have a household of two the monthly income limit is $2,567 and the annual income limit is $30,804; if you have a household of three, the monthly income limit is $3,172 and the annual income limit is $38,064; if you have a household of four, the monthly income limit is $3,776 and the annual income limit is $45,312; if you have a household of five, the monthly income limit is $4,380 and the annual income limit is $52,560; if you have a household of six, the monthly income limit is $4,984 and the annual income limit is $59,808; if you have a household of seven, the monthly income limit is $5,097 and the annual income limit is $61,164; and if you have a household of eight, the monthly income limit is $5,210 and the annual income limit is $62,520.

To verify your eligibility for LIPA's Income-Eligible Senior Energy Assistance Program, a copy of your LIPA bill showing your name as the account holder of record on the account, a copy of your driver's license, identification card or other form of positive identification which identifies you and shows your age as 62 years or older at the time of your application, a copy of your most recent federal tax filing, or, if you do not file, a year-end statement from social security or disability, or other form of proof of income, and proof of other household residents is required and must be brought with you at the time of application.

Eligible persons can apply in person for the credit at any LIPA Customer Service Center, or download an application at www.lipower.org/residential/ seniors.html and mail the application to the addressed listed.
