Meeks Sets Health Care Town Hall Meet For Aug. 25
Congressman Gregory Meeks is set to step into the health care fray when he hosts a Town Hall meeting at York College in Jamaica, on August 25.
Meeks will be joining his fellow members of Congress across the nation who have held similar Town Hall meetings, as he gives the constituents of the 6th Congressional District a chance to hear about America's Affordable Health Care Choices Act, now being debated on Capitol Hill.
"Every day 14,000 Americans lose their health insurance," said Meeks in a press release. "The cost of medical care for the 50 million uninsured costs American families $1,100 in their premiums each year. We must act now to expand coverage and give every American the choice of affordable, quality care."
Constituents will be able to ask the congressman questions during the two-hour meeting. According to a source in Meeks' office, microphones will be set up on the floor of the venue and those with questions can read them using cards that will be handed out.
The meeting at York College is one of a series of meetings Meeks will host around the district to address residents' concerns and answer questions.
Tuesday's Town Hall meeting will start at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center at York College, located at 94- 45 Guy R. Brewer Boulevard.
