Notes from the High C's
As you know, since our Kenny Vance & The Planotones concert was cancelled because of the rain storm, it is now scheduled for Sunday, August 23, at Riis Park. Should there be some question about the weather please call our hot-line at 718-474-6760 the afternoon of the event to find out if we have moved to the theatre.Of course, our Fall Festival is on September 12 and 13 and I will be writing more about that in future columns.
Also, save the dates of November 14 and 15. On those dates we will be having a special Art Show presentation at The West End Temple. This special event is replacing the concert that we were to hold this past April at Beach Channel High School in Memory of Barbara Eisenstadt. The Saturday evening event on November 14 will include wine and hors d'oeuvres and music. On Sunday, the art show will be free to the public and anything on exhibit can be purchased from the artist. More about this in future columns.
Since I am a total nerd when it comes to computers, I just don't know what happens when something is transmitted from one place to another and gets lost in the transmission. Where does it go when it gets lost? If someone can answer that question maybe I'll be able to understand this modern era. Give me an old-fashioned electric typewriter and a piece of paper. You type, you take the paper out of the machine and hand it to someone and it appears in the paper. Easy as can be, but, you must be in the electronic age or you're nowhere. So the electronic age loses everything. Give me a break!
Now that I'm finished with my tantrum, let me tell you a little about our 25th Anniversary Fall Festival. Our President, Steve Yaeger, has designed a wonderful logo for our t-shirts this year and I'm sure you're going to want one when you see it. It's a real fun design and we owe Steve a big hand of applause for his hard work. The shirts will be on sale at our RMAC tent and they will be a keepsake. I can't wait to get mine and wear it at the festival.
We owe Steve a great round of applause for all his hard work behind the scenes. Steve, in addition to his "Presidential" work, also edits our website which is wwwrockawaymusic andarts.org. Check it out and find out what's happening. He deals with the City regarding permits, oversees our insurance needs and also takes all calls on our RMAC phone, 718-474-6760. In addition, Steve is trying to do his painting so that he has new art to exhibit at the festival. And, he and Judy periodically take trips to interesting places which gives him important facts that he uses when we have our museum trips. So, here's that round of applause, Steve; clap clap, clap.
Getting back to the festival, I have checked with John Musumeci, our festival chairman, and found out that at the present time we have eight food vendors. One new one sells barbequed chicken and ribs and chili. We have a new potato vendor with curly fries and sweet potato fries and we are working to try to have a kosher vendor for Sunday. Hopefully we will be successful. Many of our favorite craft vendors will be back and there will be new ones as well and I'll let you know more about them in future columns. Enough for now, I've made myself hungry so I'll go have lunch. See you around.
