On August 4 the Peninsula Hospital Center's Auxiliary met to draw the winning raffle tickets for its 2009 "Super Super Raffle." There were two separate raffles this year. The winners for the first raffle were J. Aiken and J. Keenan (first prize); A. and S. Negri (second prize); P. Harris (third prize); A. Gitter (fourth prize); E. Deixler (fifth prize); and R. Gilbert (sixth prize). The winners for the second raffle were S. Polansky (first prize); G. Chapey (second prize); J. Ryan (third prize); F. Gallagher (fourth prize); M. and S. Schneider (fifth prize); and P. Epstein (sixth prize).

Led by the group's top raffle seller for the second year in a row, Gertrude Oltchick, lifetime member of the Auxiliary and dedicated supporter of Peninsula Hospital Center, the members gave themselves a pat on the back for raising sufficient funds through their raffle to redecorate and refurbish the entire Outpatient Ambulatory Chemotherapy Unit at the Hospital Center. The "refurbishing team," led by Sally Imperato and Peggy DeMatteis, has been working with the hospital staff for weeks to make sure the project was a success. Renovations included new paint, trim, window treatments, coffee station, flat screen TVs, closet space, and electrical and carpentry work.

Levine, president and Chief Executive Office of the Hospital Center, when speaking at the meeting on August 4, was extremely grateful for the enthusiastic efforts of the Auxiliary.

"This Auxiliary project is so meaningful to not only the Hospital Center, but to our chemotherapy patients. It has made such a difference for so many people," said Levine.

The ribbon cutting for the newly refurbished Outpatient Ambulatory Chemotherapy Unit will be on Tuesday, September 1. The proceeds of the 2008 raffle were earmarked for the Hospital Center's new Hospice Unit to sponsor a room. Sheila Schwartz, Auxiliary president, along with her executive board, extends an invitation to the community to join them in their efforts to support the Hospital Center.

"We have a good time, we enjoy each other's company, we learn a lot from the presentations and we work together for the benefit of the Hospital Center," says Schwartz. "We always welcome new members into the group and have many exciting projects already in the works for the fall."

The PHC Auxiliary meets in the Meditation Room of Peninsula Center for Extended Care and Rehabilitation on the first Tuesday of each month at noon for lunch, a meeting and an informative presentation.
