John P. Gallagher
John P. Gallagher, a longtime resident of Breezy Point, died August 3.
He was born in Brooklyn, New York and was a retired Investment Banker for Salomon Brothers.
He was a founding member of the New York City Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit fund. He was also an honorary Lieutenant in the NYPD; honorary Battalion Chief with the FDNY; the FDNY Irishman of the year; served on the Vatican Building Fund Committee, the Inner City Scholarship Fund Committee, and in the Army National Guard. In addition he was a director on the Boards of Xavier High School, Marist College and the aforementioned New York Police & Fire Widows' & Children Fund.
He is survived by his wife, Katy (nee Tunny); children, John (Mary), David (Kerry), Shelagh (Cletus O'Brien), Brendan (Debbie) and Katie (Lenny Stripeikis); grandchildren, Colin, Will and Katherine Gallagher, David and Christopher Gallagher, Cletus, Dylan and Erin O'Brien, Aidan, Brendan, Maeve and Gavin Gallagher, and Ryan, John and Shane Stripeikis; and sister, Mary Gallagher.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Marine Park Funeral Home, Brooklyn, New York. A memorial service was held at St. Thomas More Church, Breezy Point. Interment was at Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn, New York. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in John's memory to St. Saviour H. S., 588 Sixth Street, Brooklyn, New York 11215.
