'Jimmy Dean' To Open At Post Theater
Accents seem to be the rage at the Rockaway Theatre Company this season. Having already been treated to the dulcet Southern tones of Hazlehurst, Mississippi in "Crimes of the Heart" and the folksy idioms of the Panhandle state, in "Oklahoma!" audiences can now add the twang of McCarthy, Texas to their theatrical experience with "Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean," which takes place in a small town dime store in West Texas.
The show, about a group of "James Dean Disciples," one of whom claims to have a child conceived on the set of the James Dean film "Giant," is directed by Peggy Page and Michael Wotypka (of "Steel Magnolias" and "Prisoner of Second Avenue" acclaim). It will feature the sets of RTC Tech Supervisor Tony Homsey and the lighting of RTC Lighting Director Andrew Woodbridge, with a cast including Jodee Timpone (Mona Now), Catherine Lieb (Mona Then), Nancy Calvin (making her RTC debut as Sissy Now), Aurora Dreger (Sissy Then), Susan Corning (Joanne), Janet Miserandino (Juanita), Matthew Smilardi (Joe), Catherine Mc- Entee (Stella Mae) and Maureen McNamee and Lisa Gard (who share the role of Edna).
The production will open at the Post Theater at Fort Tilden in Breezy Point on Friday, August 14 at 8:00 p.m. Other evening performances are scheduled for Friday, August 21 and 28 at 8:00 p.m., Saturday, August 15, 22 and 29 at 8:00 p.m., with Sunday matinees on August 16, 23 and 30 at 2:00 p.m. Call the RTC hotline at 718-374-6400 to make a reservation.
