On June 27, the Old Timers Basketball Reunion was held at Hammels Community Center, which is located at Beach 81 Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard. It was the second annual event, which was co-organized by former Rockaway residents Robert Shabazz of Elevation Enterprises and Kevin B. Young of Vuedis Big and Tall Men's Clothing Line.

The event was attended by present and former Rockaway residents, including Mel Utley, a former St. John's University standout player who coached the West All-Star team. The final score showed a victory for the West over the East, 74-72.

Plans are being made for next year's game to coincide with ''Rockaway's Function at the Junction'' Day. This event will take place on Saturday at Bayswater Park on Beach 32 Street and Beach Channel Drive.

More information will be posted soon on www.RockawayOldtimers- Reunion.com.
