After a memorial roll call of their friends and neighbors who perished on 9/11 and 11/12/01, the marchers stepped off, led by Majorette Beth Ann Cosgrove, to the music of the Sousa Band electronically produced by sound engineer Vince Murphy. They marched to "Old Glory," while "Pete the Flag" raised the colors.

As the crowd recited the Pledge of Allegiance, Chairman Hank Iori announced the "comings and goings" of the block. Jane Volgendi was honored by her friends and neighbors for being the "eyes and ears" of "The Block." Jillian Schneider led the crowd with a rendition of "The Star- Spangled Banner." All in all, everyone agreed it was great to be an American.
