Photographs Of Rockaway From 1950s To Be On Display

The Daniel M. O'Connell Post 272 of the American Legion has come into possession of hundreds of 8" X 10" photographs that were taken between 1951-1956 by William Reinhart III, who was then a member of the post and a professional photographer in Arverne.

These photographs were donated by his son Robert, who had stored them for the past fifty plus years.

The Legion would like to place these photos in the hands of those in the photos or of family members and loved ones.

To this end, they will be on display at the Knights of Columbus, Beach 90 Street from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, July 26.

There are candid photos taken not only at Legion Auxiliary functions, but also at parades, Mardi Gras, scouting events, firemen day contests, etc.

If you believe that you or a loved one was involved with the American Legion during that time period go and take a look.

If you recognize any of the people in a particular photo, you are welcome to have it.
