Wounded Warriors, Special Olympians Honored At Block Party

By Miriam Rosenberg

More than forty soldiers, wounded in the Iraq and Afghan wars, proudly marched down the beach block of 134 Street last Saturday evening as residents stood on their porches, lawns and sidewalks applauding, cheering and waving the flag in appreciation of these brave men and women's service to this country.

The parade was just one of the highlights of Flip and Rita Mullen's annual fundraiser/block party for the Special Olympics with special honorees from the Wounded Warriors project. Two parades, one for the Special Olympians and another for the soldiers, were each led by a Marine color guard and the Martin Duffy Memorial Pipe Band.
