Rockapulco Summer Run Series Honors Bert Robbins

Runners gather on the boardwalk. Runners gather on the boardwalk. The Rockapulco Summer Run Series is organized by John Edwards. The races are named in memory or in honor of devoted runners. The course is accurately measured and timed.

There are pee wee, 1 mile, and 5K races. The post-race chocolate chip cookies are to die for.

The run on July 2 was held in honor of Bert Robbins, who didn't start running until he was 48 years old, and 28 years later, he's still pounding the boards.

Robbins is currently in first place in his age group for the Brooklyn Triple Crown series. He proves the adage that it's never too late to try something new. He just recently joined the Shore Road Striders running club. Bert continues to be an inspiration to his fellow runners. The upcoming races for the Rockapulco Summer Run will be on Thursday, July 16 at 7 p.m. with the Bob Davan Run.

The grand finale will be on Friday, July 24 at 7:15 p.m. with the Nellie Duncan Rockapulco 5K Run. This is the only race that requires registration. Applications are available at www.rockapulcorun.com
