Helping Keep Synagogues Open

Dear Editor,

I would like to thank John Baxter for his article on Derech Emunoh. He wrote a beautiful piece about a fading synagogue. We all know the difficulties of keeping synagogues open— the Temple of Israel, located on Beach 84 Street, has struggled for too long to keep its doors open, and even lost a great rabbi, Michael Scholan.

Bob Wien, the President of Derech Emunoh, has contacted Dayton Beach Park in the hopes of getting a community room. I pray this works out for him and his staff. It would be a shame to see them fold, on account of not complying with Bob's wishes and a lack of sympathy from the shareholders and the Board. We have a lot of churches, etc., but none near enough to attend. It would be convenient and beneficial to our Jewish people to be able to go to a synagogue nearby.

Please understand their situation and help them out.

MAXINE KAMIL
