Happy Birthday America- Love the RBVL
The Wave had to go to press early this week in order to celebrate the 4th of July holiday properly so there are no volleyball stories from Wednesday night nor are there updated standings. Next week we'll be back on track with both as the season finishes up week seven. We do have a few administrative items to throw at you, though.
Wednesday night was the first time that teams would have suffered forfeit losses if they had not handed in signed rosters. I sure hope you weren't one of those bad boys and girls. We'll know by next week when the penalty doubles for any delinquent teams.
When the standings printed in the Wave do not match your personal score sheet, you'll know why. It's amazing how many dogs have eaten homework and RBVL rosters!
This week's restaurant review will come next week when you will be treated to a double dose of culinary exposition. But thanks in advance to the Bay House in Breezy Point, who always do a terrific job for us.
Sean and his staff feed us well and usually have top-flight entertainment to go with the top-flight party animals of the RBVL.
And what's not to like about eating and drinking right on the beach. The Bay House always makes the trip into Breezy a real pleasure.
The spacing and locations of the net set-ups has been terrific under very trying conditions and now there are rumors that the piping plovers have flown the coop and we can reclaim our turf, at least on the left side of the boardwalk. However, our timing still needs to improve. We will be losing light each week and matches are going to conclude in the dark. Get off the boardwalk and set up your net. Then you can talk and kibitz (and imbibe) all you want.
The sooner we set up and start play, the sooner we finish and get to the party, which means we get next week's stories and quotes from the likes of TBG and Cement Shoes on time. See how it all fits together. The annual AVP volleyball tournament in Coney Island will be held Friday, 7/3 through Sunday, 7/5. Check it out if you are free. Also, the NYC Beach Volleyball Tournament will be held at Coney Island Beach on July 11 and 12.
The level of skill ranges from beginner to advanced and everyone is welcome to play. By the way, it is free. Divisions include; Women's Doubles - Open, AA, A and B; Men's Doubles - Open, AA, A and B; Boys' Doubles (under 18 years); Girls' Doubles (under 18 years) and Co-ed Fours (all ages). For more information about the tournament, go to www.nycgovparks.org. If you're interested, sign yourself up.
Now sit back and enjoy some photos from the first half of the season. As always, if you have any questions please call Patty at 917-613-0908. (Be sure to call between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m.) Or just check our website at www.rbvl. com.
You'll find the answers to most of your questions there, not to mention pretty pictures and funny stories.
