Loreno Simmons, 67, a longtime Rockaway resident, died June 22.
Simmons was born in Greensboro, North Carolina on February 26, 1942 and worked as a chef. He was a resident for more than 50 years and member of Wings of Faith Church.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Simmons; children, Gerard (Agnes) Carter of Far Rockaway, New York, Debra (Thomas) Edwards of Durham, North Carolina, Renee Nelson of New York, Constance Anderson of Mississippi, Jasmine Roundtree of New York; stepchildren, Kevin Carter of Far Rockaway, Terrence (Gloria) Carter of Virginia, Joseph Simmons, Shanisse Smith, Fred Smith of New York and Johnny Rutledge; fiancé, Elder Bernicesteen Smith, with whom he spent the last years of his life; grandchildren, Devonte, Gerard Jr., Isaiah, Michael, Kristen, Jah~zaire, Natae~a, Temperance, Justin, Jarrett, Ciera and Nicquara; brothers, Godfrey (Rosie) Simmons of Las Vegas and Pelham Simmons Jr. of New York; sisters, Almarie (Roland) Chadwick of North Carolina, Sandra (Darryl) Price of North Carolina, Doretha Sanford of New York, Annie Simmons of New York and Blonnie Brown of New York; nephew, John Anthony Simmons and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney Friendship Chapel, Inwood, New York. A memorial service was held at Macedonia Baptist Church, Arverne. Interment was at All Saints Cemetery, Great Neck, New York.
