Fire Blasts Rockaway Park Pizzeria

      A quick-moving fire raged through Rockaway Park pizzeria on Monday night, gutting the one-story building and drawing dozens of firefighters from all over the peninsula. The fire department responded to call about a fire in a pizzeria at about 11:54 p.m. on June 29 and found John and John Pizzeria, at 97-02 Rockaway Beach Boulevard, fully engulfed in flames.

      Now that the state legislature failed to renew mayoral control of the city's public school system, who is in control? The answer to that question depends on to whom you speak. Several state legislators have said publicly that the deadline means nothing, that they can renew mayoral control next week, after the Fourth of July holiday.
