Par Tee Golf Continues To Wait For Sunny Skies

By Peg Ansbro

"Water, water everywhere, and all the boards did shrink;

Water, water everywhere, Nor any drop to drink!"

These words of Samuel Taylor Coleridge come to mind as I look out the window and view the endless rain. The weather has prevented the Par Tees from playing golf on four consecutive Thursdays. However, our spirits maybe dampened but we move on and hope for brighter days.

On June 25 (weather permitting) we will meet at Riis Park at 7:30 and commence play at 7:45. Immediately following play we will meet back at the Catholic Club for bagels, etc.

The Par Tees currently have 68 members. There is space available and we look forward to having new members join us on Thursdays. Recent retirees: this is a great way to start retirement with great golf, good friends, and lots of fun. Call Alice Mateos at 945-1066 if you are interested.

The Par Tees would like to give a big welcome to our new members: Ann Ack, Mary Bennett, Teresa GaNun, Carol Higgins and Kathy McCaffery. We look forward to seeing you this week!!

REMINDER: Guys and Dolls Tournament will be held on Thursday, July 23. Tee-off at 7:45 with a shot- gun format. This is always a sell-out affair so we urge members to save the date. More information will follow at the breakfast meeting.

A woman goes into the local newspaper office to see that the obituary for her deceased husband is published.The obit editor informs her that there is a charge of 50 cents per word. She pauses, reflects, and then says, "Well, then let it read, 'Bob Smith died.'" Amused at the woman's thrift, the editor tells her that there is a seven-word minimum for all obituaries. She thinks it over and in a few seconds says, "In that case, let it read, 'Bob Smith died. Golf clubs for sale.'"

God Bless. Have a great week!
