Mattie Mae Salter
Mattie Mae Salter, 72, a longtime Rockaway resident died June 15.
Salter was born on September 29, 1936 in Davisboro, Georgia and worked as a home attendant. She was a member of St. John's Baptist Church of Inwood under the pastorship of the late Reverend Larry Ellis. Mattie also served on the Mass and Galilee Choirs, the Willing Workers and the Missionary Board.
Salter is preceded in death by her husband, McClendon and sister, Lena Martin.
She is survived by her sons, Richard Salter of Manhattan, New York, McClendon Salter Jr. and Larry Salter of Queens, New York; grandchildren, Richard, Samantha, Lamar and Evanyaleek; great-grandchild Chastity; brother, George Clark; sister-inlaw, Willie Clark of Far Rockaway; Joann Salter and brother-in-law, Vallin Salter. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney Friendship Chapel, Inwood, New York. A memorial service was held at St. John's Baptist Church, Inwood, New York. Interment was at Forest Park Cemetery, Morganville, New York.
