"Nyet" To LPG Island

Dear Editor,

This stupid idea of a LPG island off the right angle formed by the New York Bight offshore should be treated the same as the proposal long ago to build a commercial airport offshore here, and the proposal from around 1900 to build a series of fortified islands along the 15-foot depth curve west of Rockaway Point.

JFK Airport and Fort Tilden were the result of the months and months of study concerning these proposals. Since these rejected items offshore, the only major changes have been higher ocean levels, much deeper ocean depth and larger/stronger storms!

The long silence about this proposed disaster island has me worried that it will be rammed down the throats of us Americans, who want to be rid of dependence upon foreign sources of energy.

A simple "nyet" will suffice, since the proposal is backed by a Russian gas company, which has American cohorts!

The same people wanted to build a floating island for " LPG at the East End of Long Island Sound, and were refused by the Department of Commerce. Now the Coast Guard will supply a study for the offshore gas island, and the New York State governor (and who knows who else) will decide something that the taxpayers, voters, and citizens should have the final say on!

I predict that this project will be decided in some yo-yo federal court after opposition gets hot and heavy from "we, the people!"
