RAA Hosting Concert July 2

On Thursday, July 2, the Rockaway Artists Alliance will host a one-night only performance with Chris Klein and the Boulevards, out of New Orleans. The Boulevards have long been traveling to the NJ/ NY/ LI regions in the summer months, and will be holding their first show at the Rockaway Center for the Arts (RoCA) in Fort Tildenduring this tour. A life-long resident of New Orleans, Chris Klein has spent many of his days in the thick of the culture and music of the city — and has developed a sound that truly reflects the many influences which make New Orleans one of our nation's richest musical environments. Klein can be found on stage yearly at the famed "JazzFest," along with many other staple events in New Orleans throughout the year.

Self-described as a fusion of Funk, Soul, Latin, and Jazz, the music of Boulevards is awash with a flurry of tastes that has an appeal to music lovers of all types.

The show will feature many standards of the New Orleans repertoire, but will also feature songs written by Klein — in support of his landmark 2008 release, "Tales from the Money Jungle." The recording carries on its back the weight of loss experienced in the wake of Hurricane Katrina (which included both Klein's home and tattoo parlour). Included in the disc is a DVD entitled "The Life of the Modern Blues Musician," which accurately describes the many struggles musicians and artists face in today's society. In the lineup for the show are bassist/ guitarist Don Williams, a NewYork born, 20-year resident of New Orleans (and fixture on the scene in NOLA), and NewYork based members of the touring band - drummer Darryl Baker, and organist Jarad "Daddy Snuggs" Astin. Astin is the proprietor of CueZone Records, as well as co-engineer at Drop a Gem Studios at 124 Street on the peninsula. Astin will be opening the show with a set of the Dirty Boogaloo — an NYC based SoulJazz machine featuring prohibition era Dirty Blues tunes with a sound reminiscent of the '60s. This event is brought to you by the Rockaway Artists Alliance and Brooklyn Brewery.
