Empire Bluecross Blueshield, L.I. Ducks to Honor Everyday Heroes

Empire BlueCross BlueShield today announced with Long Island Ducks minor league baseball the "Empire Angels" program, which will recognize individuals nominated for selflessly giving of their time and spirit to communities across Long Island.

During the 2009 Ducks season, Empire will recognize five individuals recommended by other Long Islanders for significant contributions to the community. The first "Empire Angel" will be recognized at the Ducks home game against the Lancaster Barnstormers on Father's Day, Sunday, June 21, at 1:35 p.m. at Citibank Park in Central Islip, NY.

"Empire has been a health care insurance provider for New Yorkers since 1934, and we are proud to partner with The Long Island Ducks organization to honor Long Island's everyday heroes who make positive impacts in our communities," said Mark Wagar, president and CEO, Empire BlueCross BlueShield. "We're fortunate to have 'Empire Angels' that strengthen our communities through their selfless commitment."

Each "Empire Angel" will be selected by a committee of several Empire associates, including representatives who work and live in Long Island, from the submissions received prior to each of five 2009 Long Island Ducks regular season home games.

Those selected as the "Empire Angel" will receive four tickets to the game, be recognized during a pregame on-field ceremony and then throw out the first-pitch. Empire BlueCross BlueShield and Long Island Ducks Baseball will honor an "Empire Angel" at home games on Sunday, June 21; Friday, July 10; Friday, July 24; Sunday, August 9; with the final "Empire Angel" recognition on Labor Day when the Ducks play the Newark Bears on September 7 at 6:35 p.m.

"We're excited to partner with Empire BlueCross BlueShield on this outstanding program," says Ducks general manager Michael Pfaff. "Giving recognition to those who work for the good of others is an important part of what the Ducks and Empire Blue- Cross BlueShield are all about."

Nominations for an "Empire Angel" should be submitted via email, along with an explanation of their personal dedication to the Long Island community, to empireangels@liducks.com.

All submissions must include the name, email and phone number of the nominator as well as the name, phone and email of the submitted "Empire Angel." Selected "Empire Angels" will be notified by a representative from Empire BlueCross BlueShield via phone and/or email.
