Fisheads Host Annual Rugby Tournament

By Alan Shaw

The time has arrived for the return of Rockaway Fisheads Sevens Tournament. Come out to Ft. Tilden on Saturday, June 20 for the 33rd annual rugby 7's tournament.

Make sure to sign up a team today by going to Rockawayrugby.com and compete against the likes of all the Rockaway legends.

The tournament always provides great rugby matchups, whether it is Rockaway, Xavier High School or any of the teams that travel into the peninsula that day. Rockaway as always will present a great challenge being led by the fearless leader, Bobby "Beer Runs" Johnson.

With great speed by Brendan "Bonesaw" Lunny and aging, yet clever Grouch McCann, you can expect a good showing from the Fisheads. The local squad is made up of people graduating right out of school, to men you'd think should be long retired, yet still have game. If you think Bret Farve is bad with retirement, ask Kermit if he is booting up that day or if he is still "retired."

You can expect a hungry Fishead team heading into the tournament. The fall season was a meshing season with old and newcomers learning to play with each other. As always, Rockaway will be having a fun local gathering after the games. If you've never seen a rugby game this is the perfect day to take it all in. If you're a fan this is a great day to see good rugby. Rain or shine.
