Streetlights Still Out

Dear Editor,

Perhaps The Wave can help where no one else can. 311, nyc.gov, the Queens DOT Commissioner, and Councilmember Ulrich have failed to resolve the issue of streetlights being out since January.

If you take the left coming off the Marine Parkway Bridge and go into Rockaway, you end up on a road with the Riis Park parking lot on your right. Continuing on, you can either go right and end up on Rockaway Beach Boulevard or go left and go under an overpass and end up on Beach Channel Drive.

As you go under the overpass, all of the streetlights have been out for over six months. Someone is going to die on a rainy or foggy night on that road. Then after a few blocks of working streetlights, there is another patch (3- 4 blocks) of dead lights on BCD itself at Beach 144-147 Streets.

The Queens Commissioner advised that Rockaway had been having trouble with wiring being stolen, that was about six weeks ago. Councilmember Ulrich's office was called twice, the female answering the phone said she had recently driven home that way and noticed the problem. Still there is no resolution.

Any ideas on how to get this resolved before someone gets seriously injured or worse?
