Seaside Senior Recognition

Volunteer Recognition Ceremony: Bernie Klein being presented with his award by Assemblywoman Audrey Pheffer. Volunteer Recognition Ceremony: Bernie Klein being presented with his award by Assemblywoman Audrey Pheffer. Bernie Klein has been a member of the Seaside Senior Center for many years. He has served in different positions in the center such as Advisory Council vice president (he was also one of the most outgoing members of the Advisory Council), leader of entertainment and line dancing instructor. No one dances better than Bernie, who can dance for hours without tiring even though he is more than 90 years old.

Klein has one of the best attendance records in the center; the only time he did not attend was when his beloved wife Ann was sick. Klein is caregiver to Ann, and in honoring him we also honor her.

A retired pharmacist, Klein was a Trade Unionist in the Rockaway community for many years. One of his proudest moments was working alongside Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as a union delegate in the 1960s.

Seaside Senior Center adds its voice to City Controller William C. Thompson, Jr.'s to say thanks to Bernie Klein for all his years of giving service to others.
