Hospice Team at PHC Extends Well Beyond the Unit
A member of the Dietary staff at Peninsula Hospital Center, Carolina Molina, a dietary aide, was recently surprised by staff members of the Hospice Unit and the mother of a hospice patient, when she was presented with a token of their appreciation. Molina, over the past month, stepped in to help interpret for the Spanishonly speaking mother, Marilu Alvarenga, and they quickly became friends. But Molina's efforts did not end with the translation services. She assisted Alvarenga by doing her laundry, taking her on enjoyable shopping outings which proved to be much needed respite and assisted the Hospice staff as well. When presenting Molina with their token of appreciation, Hospice Inpatient Specialist, Virginia Honerkamp, RN, said, "Carolina personifies the very spirit of our Butterflies by the Sea Eisenstadt Hospice Center. She has become a key member of our team which shows that our Hospice mission extends throughout the Hospital Center."
After the presentation, a teary-eyed and unassuming Molina quietly returned to her duties as a Dietary Aide perhaps only beginning to understand what an incredible difference she had made in someone else's life during her time of need.
