Club Hosts Health Luau and Summer Camp

Students at the annual Science Fair. Students at the annual Science Fair. Fun-filled, family-friendly summer events are planned at the Far Rockaway Clubhouse of the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club, beginning this weekend, according to a spokesperson for the club.

On Saturday, June 20, from 12 noon to 5 p.m., a festive "Health Luau" will be held at the clubhouse, located at 426 Beach 40 Street (at Beach Channel Drive).

According to Dwain Frazier, the Unit Director of Madison Square, the fun will include raffling of door prizes and free health screenings, plus information about cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure, AIDS/HIV, cancer and asthma. Co-sponsors of the event are WIC, Health Plus, United Health One, and Amerigroup Community Care.

This weekend is also a good time to stop by the clubhouse to register for "Club Fun in the Summertime," a summer camp to be held from July 6 through August 21, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be orientation sessions on Friday, June 19 and Friday June 26 at 6:30 p.m. for parents interested in registering their children (ages 6-13 can sign up if they are active club members for at least 30 days). The camp offers learning, fun, tournaments and contests, sports and fitness activities, arts and crafts, and more. The Program Director is Nicole Johnson. For information about any of these upcoming events, call 718-471-5453, or send an email to dfrazier@madisonsquare.org.
