When I walked into Donald Ritter's Breezy Point Surf Shop this past weekend I could not miss the awesome array of flip flop beach sandals on display. That is why he is called the "Flip Flop King." He has flip flops that stash cash and rings and important things in a concealed pouch in the heel. Not only that, but men's shorts and hats that would make me give a second look at a man who wore them. Not only that, but he has women's bathing suits and bikinis, surfboards and other water activity toys. Only steps away in Breezy Point and just down the road a piece from Rockaway. Check it out. (You can get through the gate.)
During the past week I was invited to Olana Restaurant, 72 Madison Avenue, for Corning Finger Lakes, Wine Country - 4 1/2 hours from New York, where the 100th anniversary of the death of Mark Twain will be celebrated in 2010. Riesling, Cabernet, ice wines from their vineyards were served to accompany the five course delicious roast pork luncheon. This area is also the home of the artworks of the Corning Glass Museum. They brought samples of their art that just blew me away. If you get a chance to take a nearby vacation, do consider this.

Even though we live and work around NYC we may have never seen it from the air. The only way to do this is by helicopter. The Manhattan Helicopter flew me over the East River, to the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, down Broadway over to the UN and of course, Wall Street. All the distinguished places in NYC. It was quite a site and it was thrilling and exciting. A memorable daytime activity for the family.
The Czech Mission invited the media to the UN to run a film and keep the press up to date of their government. They are still welcoming visitors to their countries and especially those from the USA.
Brazil had a food festival at the Puck Building and the tastings were quite delicious. Brazil is such a vibrant land and you can't have anything but fun there. They are still thriving and it is still one of the most exciting places in the world. Rio, Brazil is so easy to get to with direct flights from JFK when summer rates are affordable.
On the Rooftop of 230 Fifth Avenue the state of Maine had a delicious picnic lunch for the media served in separate containers for their three courses: appetizer, entre (lobster salad) and great dessert in a unique white plastic carrying bag (as you can see, photo by Bettina Cirone) with their wonderful wine from their vineyards. The fish in Maine is to die for and even if you are not into sailing, fishing and whaling. You have to go there just to taste the fresh fish which is so good for you.
So wish you could be with me as I run around the city, though once in a while I run into a few of you. Happy Summer and a dry one. Contact me with your news: dorothydunne@ yahoo.com And, "Away We Go!!!"
