BCAC Pee Wee Shamrocks Win Two Weekend Games
The BCAC/ St. Virgilius Pee Wee Shamrocks CYO baseball team recently enjoyed a great weekend by winning two out of three games.
On Saturday, the Shamrocks defeated St. Pancreas, 8-6. Liam Malsy started the game and got the win going four strong innings, striking out nine batters and allowing only two earned runs. Relief pitchers Patrick Minihane (3K's) and Michael Reardon (2K's) combined to close out the game.
The game was scoreless in the bottom of the third inning when Shane Denni walked with two outs. Malsy (3- 3, HR, 4 RBI) hit a shot to right center for a home run, which scored two runs to open up the scoring. The Shamrocks were also led by Michael O'Reilly (3-3, 1R, 2 RBI), Angelo Fenty (1-3, 1 run scored), Reardon (a run scored) and David Gavinovich (a run scored).
Malsy was awarded the game ball for his performance in the win.
On Sunday, the Shamrocks split a doubleheader against St. Sebastian's, losing the first game 14-7 and winning the second game, 12-8.
The batting leaders in the first game were Thomas Rogers (2-2, 3 RBI), Minihane (2-2, 2 runs), Brandon Dalto (1-1, 1 run) and Reardon (2-3, 2 RBI). Minihane (7K's) and O'Reilly (6K's) handled the pitching duties.
In the second game, Kieran Mills (5 IP, 4 ER, 6 K's) got the win and shut down St. Sebastian's in the sixth inning. The Shamrocks were down 8-7 when the bats came alive in the top of the sixth inning. Minihane (2-3, 3 RBI) hit a big double to open up the game, the Shamrocks scored 5 to take a 12-8 lead, led by Reardon (2 runs), Malsy (2-3, 2 runs), O'Reilly (1-2, 2 RBI), Johnson (1 RBI), Mills (2-3, 3 RBI) and Gavinovich (2 RBI). Mills was awarded the game ball for his performance.
The team was joyous after both victories and filled the Broad Channel air with that winning sound. The Pee Wee Shamrock season is over. They improved every week working hard and having fun. The coaches are very proud and thanks for a great season.
