Underdog St. John's Lions Win IBA Championship


The PS 256Q St. John's Lions upset number one seed Life Skills on May 28 to capture the 2009 Innovative Basketball Association Championship at Temple Beth-El. The Lions are made up of players who reside in the St. John's Boys Home in Rockaway Park. They participate in the IBA, a high school basketball league which consists of seven teams. The Lions lost twice to Life Skills in the regular season but won in the championship game, 57-54. St. John's finished with a 17-4 record. "I just couldn't believe it," said Antoine Morris, head coach of the St. John's Lions. "It's great."
